Main Page Theme Update
10 February 2022
Welcome to the long-awaited blog post for which you've surely kept your breath well-abaited (lol).
It recently occured to me, after loading up the main site page for the hundredth time, that I don't have a good homepage, or any homepage at all really. Other than the one Apache 2.4 graciously provides that lists all the files and directories in the web-facing root....
So that is why I decided to make a better homepage for isinthe.icu. ALthough I tried to do something different and new from what I had done in the past with the various lame random basically portfolio bait that screams "I WANT TO GO TO WATERLOO" even though I never really felt that way at all.
So now what I'm doing is like basically like the apache thing, but with a little touch up, so that the basic file explorer that Apache provides looks more like something you would find on a PC.
When I look back on these blog posts (2 so far), I find the roadmaps that I write useful for keeping track of the things I want to do for this site. So I'm not going to buck the trend now.
Some things I want to implement:
- last.fm currently playing/recently played
- and it should look pretty and have like album art and everything, basically like a spotify embed thing
- this should help me to learn not only the L.FM api (which I have wanted to use in other things (like NFC scrobbling) that I didn't really know how to do) but also better learn POST requests and json and javascript and interacting with the DOM and shit, which I have very minimally done in the past 5-ish years
- webring. I know I've said it already, but the implementation is a little different this time or like at least how it is displayed on the site. it's cgonna be navigated to from the "Network" tab (PROTOCOL) that you would normally find in Windows Explorer
- A way to link to the other sites that I own. That's obviously nothing crazy but it would still be cool to have
- I fucked up and edited all my css in firefox, which for some reason doesn't let you export your edited CSS to a file I think, or at least I couldn't find any way to do so, and I accidentally closed the window before I could manually copy every styling over to my local file, so I need to figure out a better visual editor.
- a way for others to interact with me or the blog. this may and should involve the email server I've been meaning to start. This way, I'll be able to get in touch with the other people in the "lainnet" (word i just made up) who have their emails accessible too.
- the problem I have now is that the "file explorer" is all fake, so I would have to manually curate the files that are visible there, which is both good and bad I guess...
Yeah I think that's basically it so far... I like where this site is going, and my blog is useful to me too. It's basically the only interesting thing that I'm doing for myself outside of uni (which is not that captivating to begin with).
I think the last update I gave was about a month ago, hopefully I'll stick to that pace, or maybe even quicken it, but we'll have to see how much free time I have, or more realistically, how much I can get away with stealing time away from my classes....
I read a script that my friend wrote for their class today, and in it the main character was this lame loser self-hating radio host that felt like he was all alone or something or like that like he was talking into the abyss and no one was listening. Like all that he was doing was pointless and futile. And at first glance I would say that that guy is similar to myself, this blog and a lot of what I do, and all the little bits of myself that I put out there on the web. But when I think about it more, I'm not like him, and I'm glad I'm not. I do the things I do to satisfy my own curiosities, to fulfil my own goals and improve my own skills. If anyone reads, interacts or responds to what I create (however much you can really call any of this a creation) then it's a boon, but not the expected outcome.
Thanks, and until next time .,. ;.; -.- =,= :3c
